Adam Forbes, M. Ed., University of Virginia

Adam Forbes is a Ph.D. student in Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities at the University of Virginia. He received his B.S. Ed. at George Mason University where he took an introductory adapted physical education (APE) course, which evolved from an unknown, anxious experience into a passion. From there, Adam continued his education receiving his M. Ed. in Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities which focused on servicing students within a public-school setting. Thereafter, he became an itinerant APE teacher within Fairfax County, Virginia for four years. During that time, he supported students of varying abilities within physical education, created supports such as video models and visual behavior aides, was a team leader for a group of itinerant APE teachers for 2 years, and planned and organized a peer buddy program for general education students (5th and 6th grade) to “coach” students with disabilities.

Within the context of research, Adam is currently interested in the relationship between parents of students with disabilities and APE professionals. Additionally, he is engaged in learning more about the perspectives and inclusion of students with disabilities within Malaysian and Indonesian public schools.
