Katie Holland, Old Dominion University (she/her) 

Katie is a PhD candidate at Old Dominion University. Before beginning her doctoral studies, she was an adapted physical education itinerant teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia for five years. As a research and teaching assistant at Old Dominion University, Katie taught Foundations of Health and Physical Education course as well as a course on elementary teaching methods in the health and physical education teacher education program.  

Katie’s research is largely dedicated to exploring the experiences of individuals with disabilities in physical education and physical activity settings. Katie believes that research in adapted physical education and adapted physical activity should be used to share the stories of individuals with disabilities in their own voice and has attempted to do so in each of the research projects that she has embarked upon. To date, she has authored or co-authored seven peer reviewed and accepted manuscripts, including first authored-empirical papers in Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly and Journal of Blindness Innovation and Research. Her dissertation involves speaking with youth with orthopedic impairments about their experiences in K-12 physical education, with a focus on their perspectives associated with practices intended to increase feelings of inclusion.
